Kenai Waterfront Revitalization Assessment Project

Kenai Waterfront Revitalization Assessment

The City of Kenai is considering redevelopment strategies for the Kenai Waterfront Area to maximize the potential of the area to support a thriving business, residential, recreational and cultural community.

This approximately 160-acre area includes both City-owned and privately-owned uplands and tidelands located in the area adjacent to Bridge Access Road beginning at Millennium Square, located east of the Kenai Senior Center, to the Kenai City Dock within the City of Kenai near the mouth of the Kenai River where it meets Cook Inlet.

In 2022, the City of Kenai contracted with McKinley Research Group, LLC on the Kenai Waterfront Redevelopment Assessment and Feasibility Study to engage the community in a visioning session to develop vision, core concepts, and priorities, provide for an evaluation of market conditions for potential revitalization of the area, review existing plans, zoning, and/or regulations to identify constraints and opportunities, utilize community engagement, perform an assessment of infrastructure needs to support redevelopment, identify potential City economic investments and incentives to encourage development, prepare conceptual plans for potential site redevelopment alternatives, and provide a financial analysis to evaluate the feasibility of redevelopment concepts.

McKinley Research Group, LLC held public meetings in February and May, 2022. These meetings were designed to gain a better understanding of the community's vision for this area. The presentations from those meetings as well as the Kenai Waterfront Redevelopment Assessment and Feasibility Study can be found in the supporting documents below.
