Animal Control

Our lobby is OPEN to the public except during an appointment or if our Officers are out on patrol/responding to a call for service. The shelter is currently facilitating adoptions, intakes, responding to animal control situations in Kenai City Limits and care of animals at the shelter. All animal surrenders/waivers will require an appointment. We will accept stray animals by walk-in, although appointments will take precedence.

Available animals can be viewed on Petfinder, Facebook and at the shelter. Available animals can be viewed without an appointment however, appointments will take priority over walk-ins.

Tuesday – Friday: 11 am – 5:30 pm
                                             Saturday: 11 am – 5 pm                                           

Closed Sunday & Monday

2024 Kenai City Licenses are now available!!

Kenai City Licenses can be purchased via phone 907-283-7353, at the shelter or at Kenai City Hall. Staff will contact your vet to confirm the rabies vaccination for your dog(s) is current. Once that information is confirmed, we will receive your City License. Kenai Municipal Code 3.20.10 states "a person who owns a dog over the age of three (3) months, other than in the operation of a kennel facility,  shall obtain a dog license for that dog pursuant to this chapter".

To provide humane care and shelter to all animals housed at the Kenai Animal Shelter, and to fairly enforce the City’s code of animal ordinances throughout the City of Kenai.
