Kenai, Alaska Wins Savvy Award at Annual 3CMA Conference

At the 3CMA Conference early in September, Kenai won the Savvy Award for Overall Website for their population group (0-34,000). The award recognizes the multi-department team at Kenai and the web development team at Municode.

The last redesign of Kenai’s website came in 2013 and did not meet the needs of both the city and the ever changing landscape of web design.

The staff at Kenai were looking to increase ADA accessibility, make the site responsive to mobile devices, improve information architecture to provide ease of navigation and maintenance and was stunning visually. Kenai partnered with Municode after looking at the company’s portfolio of similar municipalities’ websites.

Kenai’s new site went live in April 2019 and since the citizens and staff have only given positive feedback. In addition, Kenai went from a team of three managing web content to a team of twelve.

“Partnering with Municode for website and agenda management provided cost effective solutions to meet our ADA accessibility, ease of navigation, and mobile responsive needs, saving the City thousands of dollars, annually, all while showing off our beautiful community,” said City Clerk, Jamie Heinz.

The judges at 3CMA loved the site’s use of photography and how it immersed them into Alaska. The home page photo rests inside a mountain cutout giving an Alaskan feel. In addition, the site was praised for its user friendliness and clear navigation.
