Lego® Club

Mondays at 4:00pm

Join us every Monday in the Front Conference Room to build awesome Lego® sculptures.  Each week a new theme and challenge will help spark your imagination. 

 

 

Chess Open Hour

Wednesdays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Do you like playing chess or would you like to learn how? We’re proud to offer a casual chess program for all ages and levels.  Boards provided.

Spring into Light: A STEAM Program

Thursday, March 28th at 4:00pm

Join us and learn how to make paper flowers that light up! We’ll be celebrating spring by learning about electrical current using paper circuits and applying that to 3D paper flowers. Open to ages 6-18. Please sign up at the front desk or call 907-28-4378 so that we may prepare enough supplies.

 

 

Easter Baskets

Friday, March 29th at 4:00pm

Join us for a FREE 15-minute basket craft. Drop in to build and decorate your very own basket perfect for The Kenai City Easter Egg Hunt, or to collect the first dandelions of spring. All materials provided. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Teen Advisory Board

If you are between the ages of 12 and 18 and have a passion for community, books, and learning, TAB is for you! Make suggestions and help us plan library programs and recommend new library materials! Meet new people, earn volunteer hours, and more. Our meeting are 30 minutes followed by a hangout time. New members are always welcome.

 

Soapmaking: Melt & Pour Basics

Thursday, April 11th at 5:30pm

Learn about soap-making from our guest presenter Leticia Mitchell! We’ll be heating up a melt-and-pour base, then adding scents and colors. Your new bar of soap will be left overnight at the Library to set up, and you can take it home the next day. This class is designed for teens and adults.

Speed Chess

Wednesday, April 17thth at 4:00pm

Can you find checkmate in 1 minute? Join us at our regularly scheduled Chess Club time on April 17th to try your hand at Speed Chess! No registration required.

 

 

STEAM Studio

Thursday, April 18th at 4:00pm

Join us every month to work on cool STEAM projects using a variety of tools. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics, and more!  This month we will be using Tinker Labs to solve problems using gears, motors, and lights.  Designed for a variety of experience levels ages 8 to 14.

 

 

Soapmaking: No Lies about Lye Soap

Thursday, April 18th at 5:30pm

Join us again with guest presenter Leticia Mitchell to learn all about the ingredients in lye soap, their history, and how to use them safely. We’ll also talk about using a lye calculator to choose effective ingredient percentages. Watch a demonstration, then play around with mixing colors and scents. Your new bar of soap will be left overnight at the Library to set up, and you can take it home the next day. This class is designed for teens and adults.

Nintendo Switch Sports @ Teen Time

Tuesday, April 23rd at 4:00-5:00pm

Tennis, bowling, golfing, and more! Drop by during the hour for some snacks, lemonade, and competition. Open to anyone ages 12 to 18.

 

 

Soapmaking: Making Sense of Herbal Scents

Thursday, April 25th at 5:30pm

Join us one more time with guest presenter Leticia Mitchell for some lye soap-making, this time followed by an in-depth discussion of scents.  We will cover playing with temperature, building a masculine scent, and creating smells with little to no essential oils.  We'll also briefly discuss the medicinal significance of herbs.  Your new bar of soap will be left overnight at the Library to set up, and you can take it home the next day.  This class is designed for teens and adults.  Space is limited.  Sign up at the main desk or call 907-283-4378 to reserve a spot.

 

 

Brick by Brick 2024

Drop off: April 22nd – 28th

Show and Voting: April 30th-May 5th

The Kenai Community Library is looking for Lego builders for this year’s Brick by Brick show!  Display your very own custom Lego sculpture (no kits) and compete for the title of “Best in Brick!” Simply build, then drop your sculpture off at the library between April 22nd and 28th.  An opening reception will be held on April 29th, and the next week the community will vote on who is Best in Brick!

 

Reading Dogs

It’s time to cuddle up with a book and a pup! If your child would like an attentive friend to practice reading aloud to, look no further - Reading Dogs is a program designed to boost reading confidence by reading with a certified therapy dog one-on-one for 15 minutes. Recommended for elementary and middle school aged children who can read independently. Registration required.
