Class Visits

The Kenai Community Library is offering free class visit opportunities for all grade levels. Schedule a library orientation today! Can’t visit us? Book a librarian to visit your school pending availability, either virtually or in person.

Library Orientation

A library orientation consists of a tour of the library and a general overview of library resources. During the tour, we will lead students through the library, pointing out each of the sections. We’ll talk about library etiquette and provide general information such as how to get a library card, check out items, and find items in the library. A tour of the library will take up to an hour, depending on grade levels. We offer additional activities following the library orientation:

Scavenger Hunt (45 minutes)

For grades K-2: Students will use a library map to find items hidden around the library.

For grades 3 – 12: Students will use our online catalog to find specific items around the library and solve a puzzle.

Lego Challenge (30 minutes)

Students will work in teams to build a Lego masterpiece based on a scenario or theme.

Story Time (30 minutes)

For grades Pre-K – 2: Request a story time about any topic you and the class are working on! Can include fiction, non-fiction, or both!

Library Resources (45 minutes)

For grades 5 and up:  A brief discussion of information literacy strategies and more in-depth introduction to a variety of library resources such as SLED databases, Mango Languages, and NewsBank.

STEAM activity (1 hour)

For all grades: Students will participate in a hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activity. Contact us for themes and availability.

Class Visits

If your class is already familiar with our library, feel free to schedule a class visit as a way to receive additional help for a research or book report project. No need to schedule in advance, but do please give us a call a day or two before your visit.

If you would like to explore other collaborations with the Kenai Community Library, please contact us for options and availabilities. We would be happy to work one-on-one with you to help you supplement or support your lessons and projects.

Please contact library staff at 907-283-4378 or email us at kenailibrary@kenai.city for more information about our library orientations, class visits, or our discovery classroom kits.
